Entrepreneurship journey
Awatif Al-Taher Sbita holds a science degree specialising in zoology. After teaching at secondary-school level, she worked as a laboratory technician for the Ministry of Health, first at Al-Jalaa Hospital and later at the Faculty of Medicine, including in the field of forensic medicine. She has practised crochet since 1981, initially learning through specialised magazines and later through digital resources. Following her retirement, she decided to pass her expertise on to younger generations, helping preserve a traditional craft while developing it into a source of economic activity.
Company activities
Monamnamat organises crochet courses and sells carefully crafted handmade products. The business aims to help safeguard this cultural heritage, create employment opportunities for trained participants and support household incomes. The incubation programme helped Awatif better identify her target audiences, manage her capital and structure her social media communications. The business generates revenue and employs two people, but its development is still limited by the lack of permanent premises. In the future, Awatif plans to establish a training centre and showroom, develop a brand carrying the “Made in Libya” label, and sell her products locally and internationally.
