Entrepreneurship journey
Maryam Muftah Salem, 29, holds a degree in dental surgery. She also has diverse experience in development, humanitarian action and data management. She has worked with organisations including IOM, UNDP, ACTED and IRC in database management, monitoring and evaluation, and local development. A trainer in entrepreneurship and communications, she has also contributed to peacebuilding initiatives. Driven by her passion for photography and events, Maryam founded Tendi to channel her skills and interests into a structured media business. The SheLeads programme strengthened her financial planning skills and her ability to manage the company’s growth.
Company activities
Tendi provides a comprehensive range of media services and organises festivals and events. In a market that remains relatively unstructured in southern Libya, the company stands out through an integrated offering that combines production, media coverage, event management and marketing. The company is registered, operates one branch and generates revenue, which has increased by 20% to 40%. Its team consisted of five people before the programme and expanded through the recruitment of one additional employee. Despite limited equipment, logistical challenges and a shortage of specialised professionals, Tendi aims to become southern Libya’s leading media company, recognised for the accuracy of its work and its strong reputation.
